According to Indonesians,

Using your left hand to receive something from others is not polite.

This is because, according to the Indonesian,

the left hand is dirtier than the right hand.

The left hand usually is used for things that related to dirty activities,

such as cleaning the anus after defecating, 

cleaning the wc and others.

that's why Indonesians think that a cleaner right hand is more polite to be used.



Since childhood, parents in Indonesia have been teaching their children

to always use the right hand. 

They will spontaneous beat their kids hand  when their kid use left hand to receive something from others.

Activities  that can't be done using the left hand

Here are several activities that isn't polite to do with left hand according to Indonesian.

• Shake hands
• Receiving something from people
• Giving something to people
• Take food
• Eat foot
• Holding spoon
• Salute the flag
• Point someone

Exception

when the right hand is injured or in sick condition, the left hand can

 be used and it is

considered polite.

when the right hand does something which is more important.

Actually, there is no prohibition to use the left hand. It's just according to Indonesian culture

using the right hand is more polite,
